Cyclone Melissa is predicted to strengthen into a uncommon Category 5 cyclone as it shifts toward Jamaica, bringing deadly sudden floods and mudslides.

This weather system, which had wind speeds of up to 120 miles per hour as of 6:00 AM GMT, is now shifting northwest in the Caribbean region and is anticipated to make landfall by Tuesday, according to meteorological authorities.

Alerts of power cuts and structural damage have been announced as this storm brings up to 30 inches of precipitation and coastal flooding as high as thirteen feet above ground. "Seek shelter now," inhabitants have been urged.

Melissa is the 13th named storm in this year's Atlantic season, which usually concludes in late autumn.

Category Five Cyclone Threat

A category five cyclone is the most intense classification, with wind speeds of at least 252 km/h.

Alerts are also in effect for regions of the neighboring country such as the capital, Port au Prince, the adjacent nation and Cuba's eastern region, where this storm is expected to bring analogous consequences by the middle portion of the coming week.

Landslides presently generated by the hurricane have already killed two in Haiti, according to emergency services.

Melissa is predicted to move across the island nation by Wednesday before moving through the Caribbean archipelago and out into the open ocean.

By the point it reaches the Caribbean nation, it is predicted to have weakened to a Category 3 cyclone.
