Commanders Coach Takes Responsibility for Keeping Jayden Daniels in Contest Prior to Significant Injury

Washington Commanders head coach Dan Quinn has admitted he shares some the blame for a major ailment to the team’s quarterback, Daniels.

Details of the Injury and Situation

Jayden Daniels, who enjoyed one of the greatest first-year performances in history last season, sustained a dislocated elbow joint in the Sunday defeat to the Seahawks. Although Daniels passes with his right arm, the injury has left his season in doubt. The injury was serious enough that the TV coverage did not show replays and several players looked away as Daniels was treated by medical staff.

Criticism and Coach’s Response

Quinn came under scrutiny as many believed Daniels should not have been on the playing surface to begin with. The injury occurred in the final period with the Washington trailing 38-7, rendering a comeback improbable. It is typical in these situations for clubs to put in their backup quarterback to avoid harm to their first-string player.

“I get that. I’ve been reflecting about it constantly, too, and, man, I missed it,” he said of his choice to keep Jayden in the match. “That is 100% my fault.”

Aftermath and Squad Outlook

Mariota will be the Commanders’ primary QB from now on, but he will guide a team in disarray. Following making the NFC championship game last season behind Daniels’s excellence, the team have faced difficulties this season. They also lost cornerback Lattimore (ACL tear) and pass-catcher McCaffrey (collarbone fracture) on game day, and have a host of other key players on the injury list. The Commanders are three wins and six losses so far, and it would take a massive turnaround for the club to make the postseason.
